For more than 10 years, journalist, blogger and photographer Melanie Spencer has covered design, fashion, the arts and entertainment for various newspapers, magazines and online publications. In addition to her work as managing editor at the Texas Catholic Herald newspaper in Houston, Texas, Spencer also maintains the Words and Pictures blog; is founder, writer and editor of Re-find, a blog dedicated to social, entertaining and business etiquette, style and grace; and is currently working on the photo series, Along the Way.
During her three-year stint as design and style columnist, photo stylist and contributing editor for the Austin American-Statesman and Glossy magazine, Spencer immersed herself in the vibrant and growing design scene in Austin. In 2008, she had the honor of working as press secretary to Texas First Lady Anita Perry. This exciting and humbling opportunity allowed Spencer the chance to work with Mrs. Perry bringing awareness to various philanthropies and promoting the great state of Texas. At the end of 2009, Spencer began yet another new adventure in a new city as the managing editor of the Herald.
Originally from Kentucky, the adopted Texan is, as mentioned above, an accomplished fine art and editorial photographer. Her work has been featured in various gallery exhibitions, has won juried shows and was recognized by the Texas Press Association. She lives in Houston with her husband and best friend, screenwriter and film production pro, Mark Spencer.
